Funding for research and innovation projects

In MedTech Odense, we will promote research and innovation projects with the potential to create future health technologies that make a difference for patient treatments across the healthcare system.

In 2025, the owners of the Region of Southern Denmark and SDU have earmarked DKK 20 million, with expectations of additional funding in the coming years. The funds can be applied for by employees at the University of Southern Denmark and in the Region of Southern Denmark for early-stage ideas, conceptual stage ideas or as a pipeline to other funds.

In 2025, MedTech Odense has also designated a groundbreaking pioneer project with a grant of DKK 14 million. Read more about the project

Pilot calls 2025

MedTech Odense is launching its first pilot calls for 2025, offering two different types of calls - IDEA and CONCEPT - both aimed at ideas and projects in the early stages. The funding is intended as a steppingstone to mature and develop concrete ideas, solutions and cross-disciplinary collaborations - and move the project a step further along its path from idea to clinic to market.

In total, six million DKK are waiting to make a difference already in 2025, with the expectation of more funding in the coming years.

The funds can be applied for by employees at the University of Southern Denmark and the Region of Southern Denmark at their local intranet.

IDEA

IDEA funding is available for ideas and projects in the early stages of development – from knowledge maturation and needs identification to concept development.

IDEA also supports the development of new prototypes, concepts, or pilot projects as stepping stones toward larger external grant applications and business collaborations.

CONCEPT

CONCEPT funding is available for the further development of ongoing research and innovation projects.

These projects focus on bringing solutions and knowledge to a maturity level where they are ready to be tested, demonstrated, and evaluated in relevant, real-world environments.

Conceptual framework for MedTech Odense

MedTech Odense uses the GAITS model as a conceptual framework for its collective efforts. GAITS is a model for projects’ Innovation Maturity Levels (IML) within the field of medtech. The model focuses on four domains:

  • Technology
  • Regulation
  • Business Development
  • Clinical Practice

Which is very much in line with the ambitions of MedTech Odense: To promote the development of new health technologies and pave the way for proven solutions to be more quickly and easily adopted across the healthcare system and make a difference in patient care in Denmark as well as globally.

The model can therefore be used as an inspiration to describe projects’ IML level and specific tasks as a common framework of understanding.
