We all know the feeling: You meet someone in a new work setting or in a private context, and new professional connections are formed, or ideas are reimagined together. A meeting that can help bring new health technology solutions to life for the benefit of future patient care.
At MedTech Match, we attempted to structure the chance encounter. Through short presentations – Flash Talks – from five research environments at the University of Southern Denmark and four hospitals in the Region of Southern Denmark, new doors were opened and strong cross-disciplinary collaborations were encouraged.
This is the first time MedTech Odense has hosted MedTech Match – and the workshop clearly demonstrated how much can happen when the chance encounter is structured and different competencies, experiences, and disciplines are brought together in the same room.
- I participated in MedTech Match to build relationships with researchers, clinicians, and innovation environments across the Region of Southern Denmark. For me, face-to-face interaction is the fastest way to develop new projects, because great ideas emerge when different disciplines meet, says clinical nurse specialist Tea Rosengreen.

9 Flash Talks. 7 minutes of sneak peeks into collaboration
With three questions in hand, each Flash Talk participant focused on opening doors to cross-disciplinary collaboration: What do we bring to a medtech collaboration, what are we looking for, and how can you get in touch with us?
And there were many reflections and key insights on developing the health technologies of the future:
- Find others with expertise you do not possess yourself.
- The success rate of implementing new solutions increases when strong teams co-create to take ideas and projects further.
- Find a common language and avoid misunderstandings. We know the possible solutions, but not the context they need to fit into.
- Is there a real need for the solution? Take two steps back and look at user needs.
- The potential for scaling begins at the early stages of the idea, not at the end.
- What does a new technology mean for workflows and processes? Many factors need to be considered during the development phase.
The room was filled with energy and an open mindset from participants, making for an afternoon that also included dialogue tables with support functions within areas such as research support, clinical testing, innovation, and commercialization.
